2. University of Padova, Italy
HORIZON-CL6-2022-COMMUNITIES-01-05 Assessing the socio-politics of nature-based solutions for more inclusive and resilient communities

We are looking for a consortium working on the following call. As University of Padova (Italy) we would like to join the consortium as a partner, through the Department of Biology and/or the Department of Industrial Engineering.
Deadline date: 15 February 2022 17:00:00 Brussels time

We have been working on several interesting case studies over the past years, as detailed below, that could contribute to investigating basically all issues targeted by the call. We think this call is exciting and relevant for what we have been doing in research projects and applied projects on nature conservation and environmental management and would be excited to work on a proposal.

The relevant experience of the University of Padova (dept. of Biology, dept. of Industrial Engineering) to this call is related to:

  1. the coordination of the LIFE VIMINE project (http://www.lifevimine.eu/en/index.php), and related projects such as "Lagoon Stewardship" (funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries fund), on nature-based solutions to protect salt marshes in the Venice Lagoon from erosion, based on the involvement of local stakeholders such as fishers and eco-tourism businesses to co-design, construct and co-maintain conservation works. Ecosystem service valuation and the study of their perception by stakeholders was also a key part of a project cost-benefit analysis);
  2. the participation to a project similar to VIMINE but on environmental management in an urban ecosystem, the canals of the City of Padova in Italy, where for the last three the City of Padova has been funding a project to sustainably manage aquatic and terrestrial vegetation and remove litter by hiring unemployed people and immigrants (see here, website just in Italian but with some photos https://www.padovanet.it/informazione/progetto-valorizziamo-i-canali-cittadini-anni-20192020);
  3. the Interreg ECO-SMART project on the development of payment for ecosystem service schemes to fund conservation works and climate change mitigation actions, including nature-based solutions, in Adriatic Natura 2000 areas;
  4. ongoing research projects to investigate the local ecological knowledge of fishers in the Venice lagoon and Adriatic Sea and involve them in environmental management, fishery management and conservation (several research projects e.g. funded by the University of Padova, Veneto Region, Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition, etc., see for example the second poster here https://bemeeting.weebly.com/poster-day-2.html)

Please write to alberto.barausse@unipd.it if you know about a consortium we could possibly join to contribute to the proposal.
